ACERCA DE MI OBRA / ABOUT MY WORK
The place where one is born and lives
clearly influences the character and feelings of the person. The geographical
and human environment and collective memory can mold and shape the individual,
influencing the natural and urban environment, its landscapes, the heritage richness
of the environment, the characteristic light of the place, where its forms are
defined in space, in the impressive heritage that you observe and feel; The
forms built by human beings are the mirror of memory and its time.
In the south of Spain and Andalusia I have found all of this, in its natural, human and cultural heritage. Andalusia has been, since time immemorial, the great geographical space of encounters, where they have merged in the melting pot of ancient cultures, which they have inhabited throughout its history, until the most recent contemporaneity reflected in its cities, inhabitants and in the culture, where it expands centrifugally to the world.
The women and men that you meet along the way are fundamental in the evolution of the experiences of our lives, they altruistically teach you their knowledge and knowledge, learning from them, and valuing that lived experience that you then learn to express through, in my case, art. Art not posed as an answer, but as a pursuit of questions, art not practiced as a profession, but as an exercise intrinsic to life and lived experiences, art not related to the passing fashions of the moment, but something deeper that goes beyond the ephemeral, realistic or anecdotal.
All this flow of experiences emanates a way of being, and
of being in the world, of enjoying life, of feeling, of seeing and observing
this wonderful time that we have had to live through. We artists try to capture
that flow of experiences, ideas and doubts that arise, and that we reflect
through the plastic, visual or sound arts, which, in my opinion, condense and
totalize in the medium, elements, symbols, sounds that are the reflection of
the experiences of the artist and his time, also capturing the cultural and
traditional heritage of the human being, where its timeless and premonitory
character is manifested, of great social and cultural significance for future
generations.
Things can be done and perceived in another way, the
natural, formal and spatial conditions, I capture all of this in my work
through a universal language, such as art and geometry. In search of
"reduction" the Swiss painter Paul Klee said in his writings and in
his own words that the artist:
"it means more than nature and makes the impossible
mistake of wanting to say it with more instead of less."
My work is based on geometric and constructivist
principles, a work that is developed from the investigation and experimentation
of visible and invisible reality, concepts such as matter and shapes, earth,
air, vacuum, light, and sound, how these are arranged and converge in a
specific space and how they dialogue with each other. I try to study them,
analyze them and channel them in a natural way, and expressing them in my
plastic, visual or sound work, which I title: Genesis, Aperture, Geometric
Network, Construction, Room of Light, Arc of Air, Alandaluz, Encounter, White
Sculpture, Earth-Sky, Composition, Deconstruction, Matrix Relief, Ascendant V.
In the first moments of creating a work, I try not to
condition my thoughts in its genesis, the artistic process is a questioning of
the act itself, a doubt of the same experience, I try not to plan it. The
artist, most of the time, lives, feels and expresses his work countless times
on the edge of the abyss, something that he had not planned or studied a priori,
comes out and flows in a natural way and captures it in his work.
Once the work is taking shape, I consciously attempt to
relate and merge ideas and concepts from our cultural wealth and history, with
all the contemporary culture that we are experiencing today, rejecting and
expelling outwardly any idea, concept or plastic and visual form with a
decorative purpose, that remember and represent superficial and anecdotal
themes, latest emerging fashion trends, or postmodern folklore, rejecting
everything related to cultural marketing, very common in art today.
In the 21st century, I am greatly interested in the great
social, cultural changes and technological advances that are taking place, such
as the new 3D printing processes and the use of AI in art and images, and that
I have been using them since 2023, with the generation of images of my own
pictorial works, such as the generation of images of public sculpture and
installations, from designs of models and sculptures made some time ago,
providing a new avant-garde vision applied to current art.
